FAQs

Do you still offer editing services?

Yes, to a certain extent. Life happens. In 2024, some family changes required me to return to full-time urban planning in order to support all four of us. I can still do some smaller copyediting projects, but I don’t have the capacity for larger developmental or line editing projects.

Do you do beta reading?

Yes! I offer free beta reading because I believe in supporting my fellow writers! Send me an email if you are interested in this.

What types of editing do you do?

I do fiction and nonfiction copyediting. My services page provides a full description of this kind of editing.

What’s your rate?

My rate varies project-to-project based on the type of editing needed and how much editing is needed. The base rate for a copyedit is $0.02 per word and my base rate for hourly services is $35 per hour. Manuscript evaluations are billed at a rate that reflects the author’s needs. Please send me a note for more information.

Do you use AI or ChatGPT?

My stance on the use of AI is that there is a place for this tool in our work. There are efficiencies that AI can provide when it is used to support the running of a freelance business. For example, I have used it in the past to suggest ideas for social media posts, to enhance the SEO content of my website content, or to provide content strategies for my newsletters!

I will never run your writing through ChatGPT or any other AI software, and all of my correspondence, comments, blog posts, emails, and other written content is my own. You get me, not HAL-9000. πŸ™‚

I will not also not edit writing that has been AI-generated. If you used AI to assist you in drafting your writing, I will ask you to what extent you used AI before agreeing to edit the work.

What experience do you have?

I have worked with writers in the nonfiction, fantasy, contemporary, and speculative fiction genres. These projects have ranged from copyediting to line editing to manuscript evaluations. I have also copyedited more than twenty academic papers for Scribbr along with other nonfiction projects such as PowerPoint presentations, project applications, and informational material.

In 2022, I completed my certificate in copyediting through UCSD with a nearly perfect grade and have continued my education since then through courses, webinars, and the study of craft books.
